“I Am with You”
Today we
listen to the very last passage in the Gospel According to Matthew and Jesus’
last words in this Gospel, “Behold, I am with you always, until the end of the
age.”
This
sentence brings us back to the first chapter of Matthew, with revelation of the
Messiah’s name as “‘Emmanuel,’ which means ‘God is with us’” (1:23).
In the
incarnation, Jesus draws us into the divine mystery of the Trinity. By his being with us “always” he makes us one
with him – children of God (2nd reading from Romans 8: 14-17).
Such privilege! Such love!
