There Is More
“All Judea, and the whole region around the Jordan” come to
John to be baptized. That is a lot of
people. Commentators commonly suggest that
this is an exaggeration.
Regardless, these people “acknowledge” their sins and know
their need for repentance.
They know that there is more to whatever going on in their
lives.
And John the Baptist point out that it is not just about
something more. But it is about someone “mightier” who is coming.
Then there are those who think they have it all. Their credentials can be their birthright,
what they think they have accomplished… . John sternly warns them that they do
not have it all.
The first step of realizing our need for the Mighty One who
is coming is to realize that we don’t have it all.
