Mary, Mother of the New Evangelization
Day 5
Theme: Mary, Filled with the Holy Spirit
Scripture Passage Acts 1: 13 – 14
When they entered the city they
went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter and John and James and
Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus,
Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.
All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer,
together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
Marian Reading
With the Holy Spirit, Mary is always present in the midst of the
people. She joined the disciples in praying for the coming of the Holy Spirit,
and thus made possible the missionary outburst which took place at Pentecost.
She is the Mother of the Church which evangelizes, and without her we could
never truly understand the spirit of the new evangelization. (Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, #284)
